Course Structure

  • We are able to offer an alternative to the 2 days in the classroom for childminders and carers who need to complete a Paediatric First Aid Course.
  • Our blended course offers a video-based online course that is completed before attending a full day in the classroom with an instructor to complete the practical part of the course.
  • ProTrainings Paediatric courses are approved by across the UK. Our Paediatric courses meet the latest 2019 learning outcomes laid down by the Awarding Organisations.

Course Content

Unit 1: Emergency Paediatric First Aid

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of the paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with external bleeding
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries

Unit 2: Managing paediatric illness, injuries and emergencies

  • Be able to administer first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness.
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant and a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock
  • Know how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with burns or scalds
  • Know how to administer first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with anaphylaxis
